 Daniel Minter is from Ellaville,Georgia, and is a graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta. He often works in the same medium used by many generations of southern African-Americans, carving and painting on wood, and his art reflects the beauty and richness of his heritage.
Daniel is currently living in Portland, Maine with his wife, Marcia and their son, Azari.

Portland Freedom TrailThe Portland Freedom Trail is a walking trail highlighting the people, places and 
activities associated with the Underground Railroad and the anti-slavery moment as actualized in Maine.  Upon completion, sixteen permanent pedestal markers will honor the dedication and sacrifice of those who called for an end to slavery and took  action to protect runaway slaves heading north to Canada for freedom.

Picture Stories: A Celebration of African American Illustrators. Curated by Sylvia Nissley

Picture Stories celebrates the talents and creativity of African American artists who illustrate children’s picture books. The exhibition features exciting work by twelve American illustrators of African heritage who capture daily life as well as extraordinary perseverance and talent of Black American heroes. History, folktales, and the emergence of jazz are explored in the colorful paintings, collage, scratch board and mixed media pieces featured in the exhibition.
